What Gets Checked on a Balcony
- Floor — swept and mopped or hosed down, any staining addressed
- Glass balustrade or railing — wiped clean of bird droppings, water marks, and fingerprints
- Ceiling or overhead structure — cobwebs cleared
- Outdoor light fittings — wiped and globe working
- Any built-in storage or cupboards — wiped out
- Drain — cleared of debris
- Outdoor power points — wiped
Glass Balustrades
Glass balustrades on Perth apartments accumulate salt, dust, and water spots over time — particularly on higher-floor properties exposed to wind. Use a glass cleaner and squeegee for streak-free results. For heavy water spotting, an acid-based glass cleaner or white vinegar solution is more effective than standard glass spray.
BBQ Areas
If you have a BBQ on the balcony, clean the grill plates and surrounding area. Property managers note residual grease and carbon buildup on BBQ areas. Soak grill plates in hot soapy water, scrub, and dry before the inspection.
Bird Droppings
Bird droppings on balcony floors and railings are common in Perth, particularly in areas with ibis, pigeons, or magpies. They need to be cleaned regardless of source — a property manager won't distinguish between bird-caused and tenant-caused mess. Wet the area first (dried droppings are harder to shift), scrub, and rinse.
